Susan Lincoln, now based in Brisbane with her husband and daughter, is one of 6 children of a “flying doctor family”. Born in Charleville, Susan has lived, worked and studied in Windorah, Longreach, Roma, Toowoomba, Collinsville and Brisbane. The content of her artwork is heavily influenced by these experiences.
The Rainbow Room project, conceived and designed by Susan, is a touring experiential environment for cultural and community event-based activities. The interactive space promotes both contemplation and meaningful community engagement. The beautifully crafted room has individual lead crystal panelled inlets that capture the sunlight, refract light and fill the space with prisms of colour. It evolved from simple beginnings, a testament to Susan’s memory as a girl capturing the sunlight with her mother’s crystal bracelet in outback Queensland.
Audiences approach the room through a temporary garden created by the community. The reflection room is situated as the ‘jewel’ within this garden. The external embossed surface pattern accentuates the jewel like quality of the room. This innovative touring project is designed to create a temporary community meeting place. The project will host a segmented program of activities designed for a broad audience. Each community project will be a engineered for the visitor to communicate, collect and document their unique stories about “why they are here”.
